Editors’ Choice For July 2013: STRUCK by MERRY CHASE

Published on Monday, August 12, 2013 by

Each month we select the best 15-minute Writers’ Dash submission made through our blog comment system.

It was a tough call this month as we had so many wonderful dash pieces. We chose Merry’s Struck because of its lyrical quality.

Flint and steel
we strike a spark
a thrill to feel
a foil to dark
to tend with tinder
kindling higher
from one small cinder
a blazing fire
against the chill
and pitch of night
steeling our will
flinting our light
a lightning blaze
then lingering on
our yesterdays
dissolve in dawn.

    • Indeed, I’m honoured to have my poem chosen from among so many excellent dash pieces. Thank you, Editors! I’ve been meaning to get busy posting more poems both here and on my blog, and this is a most pleasant prod to do so. Onward, with renewed energy!
