Submission Guidelines
We seek to reveal the writer within by publishing tantalising glimpses of experimental and speculative literary leg from the virtual world.
Virtual Writers’ World accepts English-language submissions by electronic format only.
We welcome submissions in the following areas: dash poetry, dash flash fiction, Competitive Dash and inworld reviews, interviews & news.
Poetry
Virtual Writers’ World seeks to publish well-constructed poems, either metrical or formal or outstanding free form. We are NOT looking for limerick or inspirational-type verse.
Please submit up to 6 poems no longer than 100 lines each.
Fiction
Maximum of 6 100-word stories/flash fiction each submission. 100 word limit.
Non-fiction
Maximum of 2 essays/reviews each submission. 2500 word limit.
General Guidelines
Submit only unpublished work. We do not accept simultaneous submissions. Work that has been previously published or is being offered for publication at a journal elsewhere is not eligible for publication at Virtual Writers’ World.
Send your submissions in.doc or .rtf format, as an email attachment to andrea@virtualwritersinc.com with the following information in the subject area of the email: (Type of work, for example “Dash Poetry”) Submission: (Your Name). Please also include a 100-word bio written in third person in the body of the email.
Expect to hear from us within 6 weeks if we are interested. Unfortunately, we cannot offer reasons for rejection.
Virtual Writers’ World acquires first-time electronic rights with exclusive rights for 30 days from publication. Rights will revert to the author after publication. Authors are free to republish their work in either electronic or print as long as Virtual Writers’ World is recognized as the original publisher and you provide a link to us. We also reserve the right to republish your work, whole or in part, in future electronic and/or print editions or anthologies.
Virtual Writers’ World is unable to offer payment. We can however offer the ability to link to your bio, personal site or other journals in which you are published.
What is ‘The Competitive Dash’?
The Competitive Dash, an adjunct to the Daily Writers’ Dash, uses anonymous peer review through an online poll to find the most outstanding poem, flash piece or short story. The winning piece is then displayed in the Winners Wall of Fame.
The competition is open to all ages and nationalities, although entries must be written in English.
The winner will receive L$5,000 (Second Life® currency) or a $20 Amazon gift voucher and publication on the website on our Winners Wall of Fame.
Deadline for submissions is midnight (PST) on the 1st of March, June, September and December. We accept only 4 entries per person.
Public vote begins midnight (PST) on the 4th and ends midnight of the 30th. Winners will be notified by the 3rd of the following month.
Writer retains copyright, however, we reserve the right to republish winning work, whole or in part, in future electronic and/or print editions or anthologies.

The Competitive and Daily Dashes are set predominantly in Second Life®, however, anyone can participate. Look out for our Daily Dash prompts on Twitter and Facebook.
Competitive Dash Submission Guidelines
Submissions must be new original work that has not been previously published.
Submit poems no longer than 100 lines per poem, essays and general fiction of no more than 1,000 words and flash fiction of no more than 100 words. There is a maximum of one entry per person per picture prompt.
Entry is free.
